Who We Help and How
The
Beeve Foundation is currently concentrating its efforts on relieving eye problems and promoting eye health care in the Fiji
Islands. There, the sun’s constant glare, combined with inaccessible health care and a lack of protection (such as sunglasses)
subjects children and adults to poor vision. Impaired vision due to cataracts is experienced at an early age, frequently causing
blindness and total dependency.
The
Beeve Foundation volunteer medical team makes an annual trip to Fiji. Originally based on Turtle Island in the Yasawa group,
the team is now operating from Savusavu Hospital on the Island of Vanua Levu. After setting up the clinic and operating room
with all the specialized microscopes and computers, screening of the islander patients begins. From the dispensing of sunglasses
and prescription glasses, to the major sight saving surgical procedures, ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE.
The February 2009 Medical Mission to Savusavu, Fiji trip is complete and was a great
success. Since 1989, during nineteen medical mission trips, the Beeve Foundation has provided a total of:
Vision
